The Purposeful Life

I recently attended Tony Robbins’
“Unleash The Power Within” seminar.
Throughout the whole seminar, I was more
interested in what Tony did to be who he is
today then what he was teaching.
You see, I’ve been trying to figure out how
Tony could go from this overgrown 23 year
old kid to being the World’s #1 Success Coach.
Because I’m in the exact same position he
was in 32 years ago, you see…
And guess what? I found it…
This quality seems to be ingrained in him…
“It’s not about me… It’s about WE.” he said.
“It’s not about getting… It’s about GIVING.” he said.
Enclosed is probably one of the most enlightening
introductions I’ve ever read to this quality - not because
it came from a renowned author (it doesn’t) but because of
the elegance with which this great truth has been penned in.
=====
What do you want? What will make you hppy?
Ask people these questions - or quietly watch them
go about their lives - and you’ll hear and see a range
of answers. People want success. They want control
over their lives. They want money. They want love.
They want to belong to communities that help them
feel important and cared for.
But none of these desires is really an end in itself.
It’s not the money itself that people want - not the
coins and the bills. It’s what money allows people
to do. It’s not power itself that people want, power
sitting unused, but what power allows a person to
accomplish. Even love and belonging are not truly
ends in themselves - over time we learn that what
is best about love is the act of giving love; what is
best about belonging is the act of accepting others
into the circle. The end point of our best desires is
not selfish, not the having of love and belonging,
but the giving. The great gift of love is the opportunity
to show concern and caring, to help the ones we
love. The great gift of belonging is to cherish the
others in our circle, to express the power of the
group through our own actions as individuals. This,
in the final analysis, is what makes people happiest
in the long run : helping others. It’s what we do, not
what we are. It’s how we give, not how we take.
That’s a simple enough principle. But it brings with it
a powerful irony - one that can make a profound
difference in what you accomplish in every aspect
of your life. The more you focus on helping others,
the more you will succeed in your own goals.
Helping others is the most direct and effective way
to reach your goals, in your relationships, at work,
and in your community.
