The Purple Cow - Day 18

As I was walking through the mall just now, I had the intention of having an experience that would serve as today’s blog post. And that’s exactly what happened! The moment I saw it, I took out my Sony Ericsson G900 and snapped a photo of it!

“WOW! WHAT’S THAT?!”, I exclaimed.

I suspected that you wouldn’t be able to see the highlight of this photo so I went in closer and took another shot! You will see something really unique and remarkable.

Notice That All Eyes In This Photo Are On The Sizzling Stonegrill! AMAZING!

And then I thought wow! The decor of this eatery is one-of-a-kind! I wonder what it feels like to dine in a forest setting? What kind of food do they serve? Is it more “wild” than the usual? I’d love to dine on that second floor!

WOW! This is just so unique! I’ve got to apply this concept of being OUTSTANDING to my own blog!!!

I’m going to be honest with you my friend, I’ve been a little of a wuss and I’ve been conforming to the normal standards of what a blog should be about.

Things like “maximum of 1 photo a post”, “list posts do the best” and other unspoken rules of blogs. But it’s BORING! And the worst part is that I don’t feel fulfilled! It feels like a chore to write a blog post (which was partly why I’m doing videos now) and it restricts the flow of my creative energy.

So as you can see, I have DEFIED the abovementioned rules and honestly I don’t really care for them anymore because as the guys at Gravitational Marketing would say…

SAME IS LAME!

The Purple Cow By Seth Godin

I was watching some videos on YouTube for relaxation just now when I stumbled upon Seth Godin’s 48 minute presentation to Google about a year ago. You don’t have to go watch it because I’m going to give you the best and most important part of the presentation here.

Seth was telling the story about how he and his family went on a trip. And on the way to their destination, something weird happened.

The kids went quiet…

So, he looked at them and noticed that something outside the window has caught their attention. It was cows. They’ve never seen cows before but the silence was short-lived…

Because it was BORING! All the cows down the road look the same and they’re just lazing around.

Then, an idea came to Seth. What if his kids saw this instead :

Then, wouldn’t they want to go up to it? Wouldn’t they want to maybe rub it’s belly? Wouldn’t they want to know everything about that purple cow?

Be REMARKABLE!

The idea is to be remarkable. It’s not difficult. Just be different and stand out among the sea of others just like you.

If the Purple Cow analogy is lost on you, then look at my reaction to the Sizzling Stonegrill at the beginning of this post!

  • It caught my attention and piqued my curiosity!
  • I was drawn to the amazing decor and want to dine in!
  • I stopped and took time to examine it!
  • I took TWO photos of it!
  • I’m writing a blog post on it, giving them FREE ADVERTISING!
  • I’ll probably go eat there when I visit Malaysia again!

And I intend to be a purple cow in the blogging arena as well. So watch out for some BIG CHANGES hitting this blog! GOSH I’m excited!

Here’s Your Exercise!

If the goal you’re going after right now requires some form of selling, be it products or yourself, then you might want to do this:

1. Identify what 99.999% of people are doing

2. Pick a quality / feature about you that is remarkable and AMPLIFY it by 1,000,000 times to stand out and be REMARKABLE!

HELP! Let’s Make AskSaiful.com A Purple Cow!

My friend, I’d love to make AskSaiful.com a purple cow! And I’d love to hear your opinion!

What do you think is the best thing about my blog?

Or.. What would you like to see on AskSaiful.com that would make it truly REMARKABLE?

  1. Hi Saiful,

That is a very beautiful restaurant. Where is it located?

I love the idea of purple cow by Seth Godin. It is only when you are unique then you can be outstanding.
