“Affirmations Are STUPID!”

Photobucket

“Nah! I’ll be lucky to be in the top 50!” I said to my friends at the Pro-Yo competition.

Why Do We Do That?

You know, when someone asks you if you think you’ll achieve something HUGE and you go off saying something stupid like that. Maybe it’s not a socially accepted norm to be confident of yourself and instead try to be “humble”.

Whatever it is, I’ve been very careful with what I say nowadays. It’s okay if I say something like that in my heart because then I can just clean on it with some Ho’oponopono but the moment I say it out loud, ooooo… It’s a tragedy waiting to happen, my friend.

Before I tell you why…

Do You Believe In Affirmations?

If you don’t, then you have to hear what I have to say.

I have to admit that I believe “Affirmations are stupid!” because they have never worked for me. I don’t know why that’s so, but today for some strange reason they worked! Maybe I was convinced that they would work and that’s why it worked but that’s besides the point.

The point is this my friend:
Affirmations are repeated in the conscious mind so that they can slowly be assimilated into the subconscious which is pretty much the “Cause” in the Law of Cause and Effect as far as you and your manifestations are concerned.

There I’ve said it. If you’re still wondering if my success with affirmations is just a one-off event, I’ll tell you the truth. It might be or it might not but I’m going to put it to the test.

I have a confession to make, my friend. I’ve been procrastinating and distracting myself with stupid things all day long, yesterday and the day before that. I don’t know why this is so but no matter how hard I try I can’t stop it.

The Affirmations That Came To My Rescue

This affirmation from “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” by Dr Joseph Murphy worked well after I memorized it:

The infinite intelligence that gave me this desire leads, guides and reveals to me the perfect plan for the unfolding of my desire. I know the deeper wisdom of my subconscious is now responding, and what I feel and claim within is expressed in the without. There is a balance, equilibrium and eqanimity.

I know it sounds rather airy-fairy but try saying it out loud a few times and let it really sink into your subconscious mind and hopefully you will attain the same results as I did. =)

Here’s another one that will help you if you have trouble finding answers to your problems:

My subconscious knows the answer. It is responding to me now. I give thanks because I know the infinite intelligence of my subconscious knows all things and is revealing the perfect answer to me now. My real conviction is now setting free the majesty and glory of my subconscious mind. I rejoice that it is so.

My guess for all the procrastination is that something broke my pattern : probably the fact that I’m not expected to come up with high quality posts everyday now that nobody is expecting an E-mail a day.

And since I’ve received a few E-mails from my readers telling me that they miss my daily inspirational E-mails too, I’ve decided to open up a “Special Readers” Mailing List who will get new updates everyday! =)

How has your experience and success been with affirmations? Do you think it’s a tool you can’t go without or do you think it’s just STUPID?

Please drop me a comment because I’d love to know what you think on this issue! =)

P.S. Remember that competition I told you about at the start of this post? I got really nervous, started making amateur mistakes and ended up making only the Top 50 even though my skills were awesome. (if I do say so myself) So be really careful with what you say, my friend!

  1. Hi Saif
As with anything, affirmations work - if you believe them. The problem comes when there is strong resistance to what you are affirming. That is where clearing techniques like ho o pono pono and EFT can help. As you become aware of discomfort attached to a thought - either in your thoughts, feelings or in your physical body, you can practice these clearing techniques and open the way for the afffirmation to have effect.

Strange though, isn’t it? We can work and work at giving ourselves positive affirmations and positive thoughts for ages - but one thoughtless, careless or fear-mongering suggestion from the media, the press, or even another person, can instantly take hold in our psyche and cause us all sorts of anxiety, limitation, even sickness!

  2. Hey Kate!

Yea, I guess everything in the world works if we believe in them =)

I’m looking into EFT now. Do you have experience with it, Kate?

Heh! That is why I seldom watch the News or read the papers.. Although I believe I will have to if I want to get a scholarship next year! hehe

  3. Just a thought…It is said by linguists that there are only 3 forms of verbal communication. When we speak we either ask a question, give a command, or make an affirmation. So, I believe, it’s not that affirmations don’t work, it’s just that we often are NOT affirming what we THINK we are. It is frequently the thought(s) we have after stating an affirmation that really gets “firmed up”. EFT creator Gary Craig calls these afterthoughts Tail-Enders.

  4. I see your point here Lomax! So let me clarify, it’s the thoughts about whether you believe in what you affirm or not that makes the difference?

    Thanks!

  5. Yes. Bottom line: when you think, speak, or act in accordance with what you really believe, that belief gets re-affirmed. If you think, speak, or act in opposition to a core belief, the core belief STILL gets re-affirmed. It is this core belief that pops into your mind as a response to whatever it was you just thought, said, or did. Because we consistently manifest in accordance with our core beliefs, it is those that must be changed if we wish to manifest different things in our lives. Most people who use affirmations do so in an attempt to change (re-program) these core beliefs. That can work, if the affirmation is well-crafted. I frequently use affirmations to expose these core (unconscious) beliefs to my everyday consciousness. I can then use any number of other methods to alter the belief.
