The Self-Help Movement Marches On!
By SaiF on Mar 28, 2008 in Thought Provoking
WOW! It feels GREATT to be writing again! First of all, I would like to thank all of you who sent very sweet and nice E-mails wishing my speedy recovery! It really cheered me up to know that I’m loved! =) Anyways, as you’ve read in my previous E-mails the server for AskSaiful.com crashed 3 hours ago and I finally got this back up with the help of Antony Askewz and Fadzuli. LOVE YOU GUYS!
So where were we? Yes! That controversial reader who sent in that comment. My answer lies in this mysterious video:
Previously in How To Get On Track With Your Vision” I introduced you to Derren Brown. What you might not know is that Derren uses Neuro Linguistic Programming with a little hypnosis to achieve his “mental illusions”.
As a result, he’s realised that most people’s beliefs are not really valid as he mentioned in this video. What happened in the above video is a perfect example why he doesn’t. And I have to admit that it’s quite a strong argument.
In fact, I have a confession to make. My faith in our “New Age” beliefs was shaken by this video. I’ve always known that whether we believe something or not, we are right. But this… this is something else! You know what I mean? Seeing that woman losing her voice in a matter of seconds really did it for me!
By the way, if you haven’t figured out how he put back the ring on her finger without touching her, he never took it off in the first place. You might want to take a closer look at 2:20.
That again shows that we don’t have to physically change something in our reality now to change the future. We just have to believe, and I mean really believe (or fool yourself into believing - like what Derren did to this woman) that you can change your life just by changing your thoughts.
So, what does this have to do with my response to that controversial comment?
EVERYTHING.
I truly believe in everything I have talked about in this blog and although this blog has quite a few “hate” comments, all I have to say to them is that every Great Discovery was first met with objection followed by a strong opposition before finally being accepted as a Law - like how we believed we were in the middle of the solar system for instance.
I actually planned to retort all the comments made but then I remembered something…
“I was once asked why I don’t participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I’ll be there.”
-Mother Teresa
Thus, I shall continue giving energy to what I believe in and help enlighten the minds of people who need it the most.
What do you think? I would love to hear your comments on this brief post! =)
P.S. Two new “hate” comments just came in… You can read them here if you want to, but I suggest you don’t invest any energy retorting… I’m repeating the 4 phrases now to “clean” on this experience as I’m typing this because it has become part of my experience..

This is powerful stuff Saif. Thanks for this posting.
Regards

In my opinion there are two sides to see in this video. In the first, I see people who “believe” so strongly that they never think for themselves. They tend to go along with whatever is suggested by someone else. If that other person’s intentions are not pure, they could get into serious trouble (as this video suggests). Left to their own devices, they never seem to accomplish anything because they don’t question or initiate anything. That is what I see as the danger of blind faith.
The second is the fact that you can “choose” to believe. If you understand that you can learn to control your mind, you can begin to convince yourself that you can be or do anything. As the quote says, “Whatever the mind of man can conceive, and believe, he can achieve.” We do it everyday as it is, just not always to our own benefit.
Saif, good notice on the ring, by the way, I liked that.

Hey Kyle!
That’s very true.. I think what he wants us to do is to question our beliefs.. Because as he has proven, we can easily be misdirected in one misleading movement (the ring)
Yes, I love that quote, Kyle!
P.S. I’m quite a big fan of magic - what I’ve learnt is not to be taken in by what they say but to observe what they do ;)
