Self-Help = Self-Destruct?

Warning: Don’t Read This If You Have Little Faith

Hey there, I’ve run myself into exhaustion (have been working on this secret project for you until 5 AM yesterday) and it’s just one of those off days when you can’t seem to get anything done. I know I promised you the Magic Concoction of the Law of Attraction Steroids, but it looks like I’m going to have to whip myself a concoction for this exhaustion first.

In the meantime, I overlooked a comment and I thought it was very interesting. I think it’ll be very interesting to know what you think about it:

The Letter From A Non-Believer

“The Secret is the latest and by far the worst example of a HIGHLY profitable trend where self-help gurus with fabricated new age titles and little relevant education, credentials or legitimate expertise brainwash us into believing that they know what is best for us, our marriages and our families.

Often their only contribution to society is introducing some exotic sounding, new age philosophy. However, they often cleverly form an incestuous group of like-minded “experts” who cross-promote each other by swearing their success is due to following the beliefs of another member of their “cult!” All the while, they ply the airwaves jockeying for an ever-larger audience by appearing in the national media to garner third-party endorsements.

The Self-Help Movement has become the Self-Destruct Movement by diminishing or destroying our critical thinking skills to choose and evolve on our own. We have given up the freedom to build healthy lives, marriages and families based on our unique history and life experience. Instead many victims, blinded to the value of their own life experiences, are attracted to the latest secret in self-help, in an attempt to find out what they should think, feel and how they should act… this is the definition of a cult.

The solution is a return to our (common) senses! The best way out of this learned “self-helplessness” is to go cold turkey. Stop following ALL self-help gurus now. Begin, instead, to reclaim your natural, God-given ability to think for yourself. The common sense that was once readily available to all of us is still there free of charge and waiting to be applied to just about any challenge we might face in life… all you have to do is use it.

Please, let’s all work together to stop the flock of “sheepeople” who blindly move from one UNPROVEN concept to the next, looking for the answers to life’s challenges that you already possess and that is the OBVIOUS!”

What Do You Think?

Of course, I have my very own response to this!

But at the moment, you want to tell me what you think? I’m looking forward to a lot of replies for this one..

  1. Saif,
This is a great post, a wonderful opportunity for many of us to help those out there, who do not understand the full concept of the Laws of The Universe, or quantum theory or thinking, as well as the spiritual side of how life works, and how our minds work…

The movie “The secret” confimed for me, what a therapist taught me about my thoughts and my thought shifting abilities.

All of this, has helped me to overcome Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which is a horrific thing to cope with or live with…

This is a disorder of thinking, flash backs and memories which over powered and overwhelmed my life, disabling me from moving forward.

I am now in control because of understanding “our thought process” and that WE can control our thinking, all of us can…

there were a lot of things in the movie “The Secret” which I believe could have been added or elaborated on, and other things which made little sense to a lot of people including me.

I wish a lot of things were done a little different in the movie, and if anyone wants to chat with me in this regards I would be happy to share my thoughts and listen to yours!

I will add that it was an eye opener to the “laws of the universe”, and an opening to our information age and an opportunity for people to give life, “some thought”

All of this runs deeper than the movie projected, and to some degree it certainly was “commercialized” for a finacial gain of many…

however that being said, people must know and understand that every law, and every thought of energy and spiritually could never be covered in an hour movie…

Bottom line is, if you study, all of this, if you are interested in not only learning it, but living it, and you make a point of understanding it at the deep level it is, your life will change!

It is inevitable that your life will be filled with prosperity in every sense of that word!

for the non believers or believers who are selective in their thinking of which laws are real or not, just try jumping off of a tall building, when you reach bottom, and this law of gravity, has some how someway changed, and you are fine…then I will question all of the other laws…

in the mean time, I will continue to believe in each and every one of them, including the commercialized “Law of Attraction!”

All the best to all of you!

  3. Hi Saif,

I totally agree with you and congratulate to be one of the free minded persons on earth. We all need to be free thinking and must look always at our divine given talents instead of following other”s ideas.

I have been struggling with this principle since long time and now I start finding people thinking like me and sharing my ideas.

Everyone of us must develop his own given talents in order to improve our life and contribute to humanity by spreading peace and helping each others instead of following gurus for war and other stupid things where men are losing their free will and thinking.

Thank you for your blog and your contribution to illuminate people’s mind.

    God bless you

I’m in full agreement with Karin’s take on this issue… I think it’s unfortunate, in a big way, that the movie (”The Secret”) was commercialized to such a degree. The way I see it, for those individuals who are on a continuous path of wanting to further understand these concepts, these fortunate individuals will be able to see deeper than the commercialism… however, let’s also be aware that the movie was designed to be marketed to more than these few (at least I thought so) - for a movie that was intended to serve as a “wake up call” for those not yet introduced to its concepts, then the movie had a good chance of coming across in a negative way, since substance is what the presentation lacked.

  5. Hi Saif,
I think everyone has a right to think what they want and everyone should accept that, but I think most of the people don’t have their own thinking anyway. Most of the people folow the old ‘proven’,’safe’way, but is it ’safe’ or better? We see more and more people drowning in debt needing alcohol and other drugs.Youth destroing and disrespecting other peoples propties. List would go on and on.
Who is right, who is wrong?
I think is alweys how you see it and we all see things diferently.

  6. @Karin: Hey Karin!

Long time no see! Nice to hear from you again..

I totally agree with you about believing in all the laws and not only one of them..

Plus I LOVE that phrase - give life ’some thought’ HAHA! Very nice pun there!

Btw, would you like to share with us what your understanding of our “thought processes” are?

Thanks for this insightful comment Karin! =)

  8. @Dave: Hey Dave! First time commentator too! WELCOME!

I’m totally with both of you on this one. However, I don’t think it was over-commercialised and for one reason:

The EXCELLENT MARKETING was the reason for awaking so many people up. And I have to admit, it woke me up REALLY GOOD.

And today, I have started to work the law in my favor.

As for the content, I think it was just nice. And for those who needed to know more, the Secret DVDs came with “The Science of Getting Rich”

So, I think the people who are making noise are those who really took the “thoughts become things” adage too literally..

They forget that all those featured in the movie “thought” but they also ACTED!

Thank you for your comment Dave.. I’m looking forward to talking to you.. Drop me an E-mail or comment anytime, man.. =)

  9. @Therese: HEY! Thank you for that point of view!

You’re very right about that! Most people are thinking the wrong way anyways, so why not expose them to self-help material and hopefully after reading them, their thinking will be positive as well!

Thanks again Therese! Hope to get to hear more from you! =)

  10. @Dave: I forgot to add that for those who think “The Secret” was too little content, they’re coming up with a sequel to answer even more questions..

I’m waiting for that one! =)
