Secrets of the 14 Year Old Millionaire Mind

Some of my readers told me that the FREEIQ video of Farrah Gray’s Keynote Speech took too long to load for them, so I’ve decided to sum up the more important points Farrah made for today’s post.

Grandma’s 3 Most Valuable Pieces of Advice

1. “Nobody’s Better Than You”

I wish my grandmother had given me this piece of advice when I was a kid. Why? It’s not because I feel some people are better than me or that I’m insecure or anything.

I’ve always had this belief that some people are capable of more. When I think of McDonald’s, I think,”That’s such a huge enterprise. I can’t possibly build something like that even if I tried.”

But I believe this kind of thinking is what has been holding me back all this while from starting something phenomenal. I know I have the potential. I know you do too. Everyone of us do - but that potential means nothing if it’s not realised, don’t you think?

To be honest with you, I don’t know why I didn’t discover this sooner. I was part of a soccer team that won 6 championship titles in 8 years. I did set up a theatre company with my friends and executed the play professionally to over a thousand people.

Yet that belief just stuck with me - probably because I thought everything was done by one person, which I’ll get to in a minute.

The fact is every great man who has walked, is walking and will walk this Earth are just that : men. And just like Farrah said in this keynote speech,”I believe that what I’ve achieved… is common sense, it’s just not common practice.”

There is no reason for thinking that I can’t do what another person has done - and so don’t you. So let’s just get out there and create the stuff of dreams, shall we? ;)

2. “Wake Up In The Morning And Say ‘Why Not Me?’”

I’ve started practising this and I’ve gotta tell you that althought it’s only 10 words, it’s really effective. You should make a practice of it - remember what Farrah said : “I believe that what I’ve achieved… is common sense, it’s just not common practice.”

I think the power of this daily routine is that it trains your mind to answer, “There’s no reason why I can’t be a millionaire,” or “There’s no reason why I can’t become a best-selling author,” or “There’s no reason why I can’t have a fulfilling relationship.”

I’ve found that it introduces my mind to the endless possibilities of what I can do and achieve if I just set my mind to it. Like Farrah’s Grandma advised, “Anything that you want to achieve, you can.” Try it!

3. “Nobody’s Better Than You And You Should Walk Up To Anybody.”

Do you know people who would rather get lost than ask the bus driver if the bus is going to his destination? I know many friends who are like this and I even used to know such a person intimately.

Fortunately for me, I have changed my self-defeating ways and am proud to say that I can walk up to anybody and strike up a conversation and eventually get something for myself.

However, the first few times I did this I failed miserably. Why?

i) When the person is a “somebody” I found that I tend to put them on a pedestal. And when I did that, people would be instantly repelled by me. (Hmmm… reminds me of the one-sided crushes I used to have)

ii) Stating my intentions too early. There seems to be an unspoken rule that you shouldn’t “talk business” the first time you meet someone. There has to be some form of formal introduction and here’s the big one: you have to take interest in the person before he will take an interest in you.

iii) Whenever someone rejects my proposal for a collaboration of some sort, I would take it personally.I would stop meeting new people out of FEAR (False Expectations Appearing Real)

The fact is that Farrah created UNEEC (Urban Neighbourhood Economic Enterprise Club) the same way - by facing rejection after rejection after rejection. Like he said, “Everything we want is on the other side of fear.”

iv) Whenever I talked about myself for too long, I’d lose them. In his speech Farrah said that the “60 second pitch” is wrong. You only have 10 to 15 seconds to get someone’s attention - how true.

v) Not maintaining eye contact and talking too softly. This has got to be the most overlooked part - confidence in yourself and your ideas.

Now that you’ve learnt from my mistakes, remember to go out there and walk up to anybody, status notwithstanding, to get what you want. I hope this non-exhaustive list will help you. Feel free to add to the list under my comments section.

The Five Pillars of Inner Success

1. Find Your Area of Excellence.

I’ve already touched on this in first part of the Farrah Gray Exclusive so if you want to have a more thorough and detailed way of finding your area of excellence, you can head there.

My friend, Farrah is right. The world needs you to find your area of excellence. The world doesn’t need more people playing small. The world needs you to find your gift/talent and become the best at it.

Here are the 3 questions Farrah proposed you ask yourself:

  1. What comes easy to me but harder to others?
  2. What is one thing that I would do for years and years to come and never have to get paid for it?
  3. How can you be of service? How can you give back?

If you’re wondering why you should find your area of excellence, you might find your answer in this famous axiom : “If you fail to go within, you fail to go without”

Last year, T. Harv Eker, best-selling author of,”Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” (OUTSTANDING BOOK! It totally changed my financial blueprint.) said something to the same effect when he said that if someone makes a million dollars but his financial blueprint is set for half a million dollars, he’s going to lose half of it.

Why? Because there’s lopsided success in that there’s a discrepancy between the inside world and the outside world. The person will eventualy find a way to self-sabotage himself to lose that half a million dollars, just like a thermostat that will cool a room whenever the temperature rises to more than the level set.

2. Sometimes Believing You Can Have It Isn’t Enough.

Do you remember the time when you believed you can do something, but you eventually found out that you can’t? Shouldn’t you be able to do something since you believed with all your heart that you can do it?

That’s what I used to believe too. But after some research, (When I say research, I really mean failures) I’ve found that there are 3 levels of beliefs that I must have before I can achieve something.

  • Believing That I Can Do Something.“Whether you think you can do something or not, you are right.” - Henry Ford
  • Believing That It’s Possible For Me. If you’re wondering if the first two’s the same, look closely. I’ve found that sometimes I might believe I can do something if I wanted to and yet at the same time feel it’s not possible for me. Keyword : for me.

This level is only achieved once there’s no more limiting beliefs. Try asking yourself,”Why can’t I attract this achievement into my life?” If you answer anything other than,”I know it’s on the way,” you have limiting beliefs : Time for some cleansing, Ho’oponopono style.
  • Believing That I Deserve It. Some people say that they have to perform outstandingly in order to feel worthy of an achievement. Farrah says that one has to feel worthy and then get his performance up to that level of worthiness. How true.

Once I truly believed in those three, everything else became a breeze.

3. Not Believing In Luck.

“We don’t get in life what we want, we get what we are by becoming more, doing more and living beyond the comfort zones.”

This issue is highly debatable. Most people say they don’t believe in luck playing a factor in their success, but a small minority swears that without a little bit of luck nothing would have happened.

I believe the difference in opinions comes from the varying perceptions of luck. If I try my best at promoting this blog, and a couple of opportunities surfaced that will bring this blog to the next level, would that be luck? Or would that just be the law of attraction in action and have I created those opportunities?

You can read more about this debatable topic on luck at Mary’s Goodlifezen blog if you have a curious mind. She presented 7 strategies for good luck and it cleared my head on some things.

4. Deciding To Get The Steak Out of Life.

I think Farrah Gray’s analogy for this one really has a strong connotation for me. He asked the audience, “Do dogs like bones?” and the audience answered yes, of course. So did I.

Then he said, “Dogs don’t like bones. They like steak! They settle for bones!” Wow! What a vantage point!

He also reminds us not to get caught up in the daily, “I’ve got to make this money to pay the bills.” and decide to get the stake out of life by finding a way to quit the job you hate.

Of course, this may not apply to you but if it does, find one you love. I guess what I’m trying to say is we should never settle for less than we deserve.

5. Just Imagine.

If you listen to Farrah somewhere near the end of the speech, you’ll realise he’s going all “Secret”-ish on you by bringing the law of attraction into the discussion.

He stressed on what Einstein said,”Your imagination is a preview of life’s coming attractions” and on the fact that the mind is the most powerful navigation system that will bring you anywhere you want, but you have to be specific.

He also talks about how positive thinking about the future is critical to success since the mind doesn’t know the difference between what’s imagined and what’s real. I was just watching “The Secret” again this afternoon and it still amazes me that atheletes activate the same muscles when they imagine running and when they’re actually running.

This is where I believe visualisation comes into place. I think it’s worth pointing out that we shouldn’t get caught up in “what is” now when doing this exercise daily because it will only cancel out the visualisation.

For me, remembering that what I’m reaping today is the result of what I sewed yesterday helps alot in overcoming the abovementioned obstacle.

The Two Supporting Externals

1. Surround Yourself With Positive People

We’ve all met people who tend to have a never-ending supply of negativity. They go on and on and on about how they failed to do this and how they’re miserable at that and they just suck the life out of you.

James Arthur Ray calls them energy vampires. You know what’s Farrah answer to these energy vampires? “If you can’t change the people around you, then change the people around you.”

At first that just seems like a play on words, but it’s worth reading again. It’s just so simple and profound at the same time.

2. You Can’t Do It By Yourself

So we’ve come full circle. At the start of this post I told you the reason I thought I can’t start a McDonald’s was because I thought it was all done by one person.

But by the time I reach the end of this post, I realise that you really can’t do it by yourself. “Walk up to anybody”, “surround yourself with positive people” are both based on others.

The truth is that we have to work and network with other people. In his speech Farrah gave the analogy of snowflakes versus snow and how the latter can be destructive to man although we both know they are just snowflakes balled together.

The last point that I want to highlight to you that I’ve found so profound is what Farrah said about “We are not as divided as we are connected” and stressing on the unspoken truth that we don’t work together because of our different titles.

I just want to remind you that’s our ego’s talking and that the Universe does not reward ego because we are all part of a grander scheme of things.

  2. Hey Jenz!

You skipped lunch for this video?! Gosh that would be a really lovely testimonial for my blog! Haha!

Definitely heart-warming, and to know that he did all that when he was still a kid just amazes me - I looked at my cousin who’s 14 and I thought to myself,”That’s impossible!”

But Farrah has given all of us hope that if a kid can do it, it might not be that difficult for the grown-ups! ;)

Jenz, you never told me you were a fellow Muslim brother! Assalamualaikum, my friend.

    To CANI!
