Les Brown Sparked Life In Me Through Death
By SaiF on Jan 16, 2008 in Gurus
In the past month, some strangers have dropped me random messages on Youtube and Facebook saying that their favourite speaker is Les Brown.
I’ve never heard of him so I dismissed it.
Today, a Facebook group owner included the link to a video of Les Brown & I finally got to see him in person.
I’ve watched a couple, and I have to say, there’s just something about this man that seems to attract me. I don’t know if it’s the orange-red backdrop or his accent, but there’s just SOMETHING.
Here, watch this:
Did you feel it?
Whatever it is, Les Brown said something in this video that triggered a memory of a technique I learnt sometime this month.
“If you had your life to live over again, you can do more than what you’ve done thus far”
In the video, he uses the fact to demonstrate that most of us don’t aim high enough, but this reminded me of a technique that resulted in the invention of handphones.
I shall try to adapt this technique to life and hopefully, it won’t be like eating bananas with chilli sauce.
A year or two ago, I watched this movie where the Angel of Death mistakenly took a man’s life at the wrong time.
Of course, as you can imagine, the guy went nuts when he found out about this but the best the Angel could do was put his spirit into the body of a recently deceased.
The movie was hilarious because the guy’s actually a young African American and a struggling stand up comedian but the body he settled in for the most part was that of an old but rich White man.
The movie made me think because this relatively unsuccessful guy actually achieved more goals in a body that didn’t suit him than in his own, simply because he made the right choices.
So I want you to imagine that you are in the same situation as him.
You got pulled out of your body at the wrong time and now you’re compensated with a body that’s totally not you.
That may seem like a bad thing at first, but as you start to think about it you realise that this is the best opportunity to start anew.
Your life as you know it has ended.
Your family, friends and colleagues think you’re dead – well technically you are.
Nobody really knows you.
Your bank account now has millions in it – part of the compensation.
You have no problems, no troubles, no limitations, no past failures under your belt.
What would you do if your life as you know is over, and you’re given a chance at starting anew?
What different paths would you take?
What different choices would you make?
What different attitude would you adopt?
What will you do different in THIS life, since you agreed with Les Brown that if you had your life to live over again, you can do more than what you’ve done thus far?
I want you to let go of any inhibitions that might be stopping you from doing whatever you want to do.
What inhibitions could there be?
You’re starting on a clean slate here.
I want you to just ponder on that for a while.
Ponder.
Ponder.
Ponder.
Ponder some more.
Really Ponder.
Why are you not pondering.
Good.
So, assuming that you achieved whatever you wanted to in your new body, what did you do differently?
How did you do it differently?
Got the answers to the questions above already?
Start doing it now!
You have to!
There’s no excuse for you not to!
I don’t think that “Angel of Death accident” is going to happen in the real world so you might as well imagine that you are in a new body now.
What did you say you were going to differently, and how?
Start doing it now!
Forget the past, don’t even think of the future for now, just focus on the present for the present will become the future which will eventually become a past.
Therefore the only way to having a fulfilling past to reflect on and future to look forward to is to live in the present!
And while you’re at it, like Les Brown said, AIM HIGH!
I realise that the problem why I didn’t or haven’t achieved some things in life is because I didn’t think BIG enough and things just won’t work out for some odd reason.
The Universe just doesn’t seem to reward smallness.
So dare to dream something worthy my friend.
Think BIG.
Live in the present.
Don’t wait to regret 10 years from now ( or even when you’re just a spirit) about the decisions you could have made.
Start making great decisions now.
I know it’s a bit scary, but I’m doing it with you too.
I believe in myself.
I believe in you.
You can do it!
