Why I Don’t Believe In Intentions Anymore

zero limits cover

As you read the title above, you’re probably feeling
rather confused and probably just GASPED!

Almost all self-help gurus tell us to set an intention
before we do ANYTHING.

But here’s the thing, intentions more than often limit
us.

By the end of this post you’ll understand why, first, I
want to share with you what happened today.

As I was searching for ideas for today’s blog post, a friend of
mine MSN-ed me asking me to help him look for a new name
for his company.

I told him, “I’ll clean on that.”

And within less than an hour, an idea came to me.

He SMS-ed me back immediately,” Thanks. I like it.
Acceleration.”

You see, I’ve just finished reading a book by my favourite
author Dr Joe Vitale called “Zero Limits” which features
a technique called Ho’oponopono.

Don’t worry if you can’t say that at one go. I took about
6 times before I finally could say it at one go.

It helps to say it like this “Ho.. O.. Pono.. Pono.”

Ho’oponopono is what I did when I said,” I’ll clean on that.”

In the book,” Zero Limits”, I was introduced to four
wonderful phrases that seems to instantly quieten my mind
and lead me to a peace I’ve rarely encountered.

It feels so serene to be at “Zero” as the book terms it.

I LOVE IT.

In fact, I love it so much that I’m chanting them in my head
as I’m typing this.

I want to share with you the summary of the principles
I’ve gotten from this book (and I really, really, really recommend
you buy this book and read it at least twice to understand the
gravity of the mind-blowing concepts in this book and how you
can use it) but first let’s listen to this unbelievable story:

I still have doubts about this story but I’ll clean on that.

P.S. Today I have an additional section for you at the end
of this post.

Now that you’ve heard that story, let me tell you what
Ho’oponopono is all about.

The prevalent concepts in this book that you have to know
are these:

1) You Either Have Memories Or Inspirations

According to Dr. Hew Len, the teacher of the method,
we do everything from either memories or inspirations.

Memories are basically the programs that we are born
or inculcated with.

For instance, “Money is the root to all Evil” is a program,
and hence we do not act to get money, and then we might
start to live a life of poverty.

Inspiration on the other hand is what happens when we
let go and leave all to the Universe to make something
that we asked for happen (or not.)

Inspiration is what you get from the Divine.

The sudden ideas that come to you as you’re in the shower.

The sparks of genius that you couldn’t believe came from
you (they didn’t)

And the only way to get an inspiration is to be at “Zero”.

“All that scientists know is the cosmos was spawned from
nothing, and will return to the nothing from whence it came.
The Universe begins and ends with zero.”

-Charles Seife, Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea

If you haven’t realized it yet, we do tend to act a lot out
of our memories or programs as they tend to become habits
after a while.

So, to get to “Zero”, we have to clean on the memories
that do not serve us by loving them.

How?

2) The Four Cleansing Phrases

“I love you.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Please forgive me.”

“Thank you.”

Try saying it to yourself a few times, truly feeling every
emotion that the words convey. Taste them on your tongue.

And not long into it, you’ll feel relieved. You’ll feel as
if a great burden’s off your shoulder.

It has. Because with those four words you’ve just expressed
Grattitude, Love and Forgiveness.

The 3 most important things to reconnect you with the
Divine.

Now I don’t know if I sound too airy-fairy here but this is
the truth to getting to “Zero”

3) You Have A Choice, But You Don’t Have Control

I remember 2 years back when I was in junior college, a
few friends and I would always talk about life and how it
works.

On hindsight, we really should have just spent that time
trusting the Divine and enjoying each other’s company –
but I guess we were enjoying each other’s company in
our own way.

One of the hottest debates would be this:

“If God has already written our stories, then where do
we come into play?”

Just writing this makes me feel uncomfortable, because
honestly speaking I don’t really have an answer.

Think about it. It’s somewhat of a chicken and egg
problem.

If God has already planned out what we are to do, then
where do our intentions come into play?

Is There Even Such A Thing As An Intention?

I made a startling discovery as I read this book that will
answer this mind-boggling question.

Before I tell you what it is, let me ask you a question.

“Can you guess what your next thought is going to be?”

If you’re like me, you probably tried to answer that
thinking it’s a stupid question but then you realized
you can’t.

So here’s the startling discovery:

We can’t control our thoughts.

Our thoughts are not determined by our conscious
mind, no matter how much we wish that we can actively
control our thoughts.

FACT: The subconscious mind lights up seconds before
the conscious one does.

Scientists have thus proven that our thoughts come from
our subconscious.

Then where do those thoughts come from if not from us?

Yes, you’ve guessed it right.

Memories from past experiences or Inspiration from the Divine.

Memories tend to replay themselves while Inspiration
tend to be something we’ve never thought of before (and
guide us to the right path.)

So it’s quite clear to us which of those we’d want to
trigger our thoughts.

And the only way to get Inspiration is to clean, clean, clean.

I’m beginning to sense a theme here. ;)

As for the answer to the chicken and egg question, Joe
Vitale says, “You have choice, but you don’t have control.”

He also adds, “Surrender is key.”

4) We’re Responsible For Everything… Even The People
Who Come Into Our Lives… With Problems

This is something that I truly struggled with.

The book suggests, no INSISTS, that we create 100% of
our realities.

Now, I’m quite familiar with this concept of taking
100% responsibility for my life but what this book’s
saying is that I’m responsible for the people who come
into my life and that I even created the problems they
may be facing.

Yes, you read that right.

I created the problems they may be facing.

So, going back to what happened earlier today, my
friend’s problem of not being able to find a name for
his new company was created by me.

I know you’re grappling with this concept and you
probably even think I’ve finally gone bonkers but
let me ask you another question.

“Don’t you realise that whenever something bad
happens, YOU seem to be around?”

Ponder on that for a little before you continue reading.

The concept is that you and I share Memories.

So my friend has a problem with creating a brand
name and now I share his reality and I too have
caught the “Virus”.

Now it becomes my problem.

The only way for me to solve it is not to look on
the outside for the solution but look within and
clean, clean, clean.

Since we both share this Memory, cleaning my
memory would clean his too.

I got to “Zero” and as I sat up on my bed, I got
the word “Acceleration” and just to prove a point
to myself, I also suggested him another word to
incorporate into his brand name, “Freedom” that I
got from brainstorming using my “conscious mind.”

He said he liked the word, “Acceleration” but made
no comment about the other (out of politeness I presume)
and VOILA!

Exhibit A has proven to be as accurate an evidence
as any will be, so…

I rest my case.

As I cleaned on the problem, I got to “Zero”, I
told him what I got out of it and he might use it or
he might not but what I know is that it didn’t come
from me, and it could probably even inspire him
to get the final name that he settles on.

5) Intentions Limit Us

This final one still bugs me and I’m going to
re-read the chapter to get clarity on it and clean,
clean, clean.

What I understand from this last principle is that
our intentions tend to limit us because they come
from our Ego’s and since our Ego’s cannot see
what the Universe can in terms of the Grand Design
and Master Plan, we tend to go against what the
Divine wants us to do, ironically when we say:

“That’s it! I’m taking charge of my life from now
onwards.”

The key is to avoid coming from a place of ego
and start listening to the Divine.

How?

Clean, clean, clean.

I just realized that I don’t need to re-read the chapter
because as I was typing this for you, my mind just
made the neuron-connections needed to understand
what I need to do instead of setting intentions.

And it is co-creation:

Listening to the Divine and then setting my “intention”
to achieve what the Divine has set me out to do.

Thank you!

I LOVE YOU!

To CANI,

SaiF

Saif Improvement for the day: Get to “Zero” by cleaning,
cleaning and cleaning so that I can resolve the problems
of people I come into contact with and my own, through
the Divine’s Inspiration.

SURPRISE!

Powerful Excerpts From “Zero Limits” by Dr. Joe Vitale and
Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len

APPENDIX A
Zero Limits Basic Principles (Pg 199-201)

1. You Don’t Have A Clue What Is Going On

It is impossible to be aware of everything happening in and around you, consciously or unconsciously. Your body and mind are regulating themselves right now, without you being aware it. And numerous invinsible signals are in the air, from radio waves to thought forms, which you have no conscious sense of at all. You are indeed co-creating your own reality right now, but it is happening unconsciously, without your conscious knowledge or control. This is why you can think positive thoughts all you like and still be broke. Your conscious mind isn’t the creator.

2. You Don’t Have Control Over Everything

Obviously, if you don’t know everything that is happening, you can’t control it all. It’s an ego trip to think you can make the world do your bidding. Since your ego can’t see much of what is going on in the world right now, letting your ego decide what is best for you isn’t wise. You have choice, but you don’t have control. You can use you conscious mind to begin to choose what you would prefer to experience, but you have to let go of whether you manifest it or not, or how, or when. Surrender is the key.

3. You Can Heal Whatever Comes Your Way.

Whatever appears in your life, no matter how it got there, is up for healing simply because it’s now on your radar. The assumption here is that if you can feel it, you can heal it. If you can see it in someone else, and it bothers you, then it’s up for healing. Or as I’m told Oprah once said, “If you can spit it, you’ve got it.” You may have no idea why it’s in your life or how it got there, but you can let it go because you’re now aware of it. The more you heal what comes up, the clearer you are to manifest what you prefer, because you will be freeing stuck energy to use for other matters.

Things to note:

If you can see it in someone else, and it bothers you, then it’s up for healing.

The more you heal what comes up, the clearer you are to manifest what you prefer, because you will be freeing stuck energy to use for other matters.

4. You Are 100 Percent Responsible For All You Experience

What happens in your life is not your fault, but it is your responsibility. The concept of personal responsibility goes beyond what you say, do, and think. It includes what others say, do, and think that shows up in your life. If you take complete responsibility for all that appears in your life, then when someone surfaces with a problem, then it is your problem, too. This ties in to principle three, which states you can heal whatever comes your way. In short, you can’t blame anyone or anything for your current reality. All you can do is take responsibility for it, which means accept it, own it, and love it. The more you heal what comes up, the more you get in tune with the source.

5. Your Ticket To Zero Limits Is Saying The Phrase “I Love You.”

The pass that gets you peace beyond all understanding, from healing to manifestation, is the simple phrase “I love you.” Saying it to the Divine cleans everything in you so you can experience the miracle of this moment: zero limits. The idea is to love everything. Love the extra fat, the addiction, the problem child or neighbour or spouse; love it all. Love transmutes the stuck energy and frees it. Saying “I love you” is the open sesame to experience the Divine.

6. Inspiration Is More Important Than Intention

Intention is a toy of the mind; inspiration is a directive from the Divine. At some point you’ll surrender and start listening, rather than begging and waiting. Intention is trying to control life based on the limited view of the ego; inspiration is receiving a message from the Divine and then acting on it. Intention works and brings results; inspiration works and brings miracles. Which do you prefer?

  1. As always Saif, a great post/blog!

Joe is one of my personal favorites!
There is something about him that has always resonated with me…

I was never sure why? Until now!
Most people who do know me, know that I am a woman of intent!

    I do not set goals,

I strongly believe that it is goals that set us up for failure.

(and anyone who wants to know why this is… can simply contact me or ask me!)

Intentions, intending, or intent are the words which “move” me…

goals are kind of well “hit and miss”

where using the word and mindset of “intend” does prove results,

you will do anything (pretty much) to do what you intend on doing,

obstacles, or challenges, blocks or people, nothing,,,will get in your way, and if or when this does happen,

it is amazing how well you can “get by” work through, persevere, and deal with anything…

“Intention Does Create Results!” “Intervention of the Divine” and the “inspiration” this, certainly makes sense to me!

So go do it! Have intent, and inspiration,
inspiration is all around you, it is there telling you something!

    Listen to that,

inspiration could come in the way of a person, a book, or one of those “ideas” that “seemed to come out of nowhere”

GREAT BLOG/POST you are doing an awesome job here Saif!

All is good in the world!

we are here, and your readers are here reading this for a reason!

    “give it some thought” :)

  2. Just one question…

…If what Joe says in his video works - why is he clearly so fat and unhealthy looking?

Seriously, Joe looks one burger away from the ICU.

Sorry to be so abrupt, but I hate people pushing this crap. Those with the least money and the most need are ripped-off with this rubbish - it’s just ‘wrong!’

He dont need any more money and conning the poor is against every major faith or religion on the planet.

    Stop pushing this stuff!

    Blessings,
    Suzanne

  3. Hey Suzanne,
Can I just say you are totally correct. This is crazy-insane.

pure bull crap from a master snake oil salesman. the guys got no credibility after screwing people with ‘the secret.’

one day, his chickens will come home. until then, expect more ways to screw the poor, vulnerable and needy. truly awful.

  4. @Karin: GREAT comments there Karin! I believe that goals are to us as mission statements are to huge corporations…

    They are FORGETTABLE!

Vision on the other hand really inspire us to great heights!

Hey Karin, I have a lot of those ideas that came from nowhere! One of them is this blog! lol

Thank you for your compliments again, and yes “Give it some thought!”

  5. @Suzanne: Hey there! Thank you for the comment =)

I do agree with you that Joe is overweight but you should really have seen him 5 years ago. He’s slimmed down quite a lot since then.

Another factor that you might be missing here is that the Ho’oponopono method isn’t from Joe but from the Hawaiians. Joe is a great marketer and he thought that the world needed to know about this.

Before you go about retorting, I want you to know that I had the exact same sentiments as you did. But I kept an open mind and as I read the whole book from start to finish, it became apparent to me why this works.

I invite you to discover it for yourself by reading the book Suzanne. I’m sorry that you have such a strong reaction to this. Please forgive me if this has offended you.

  7. Dear Saiful,

I don’t know whether Joe is a Muslim or not, but the gratitude concept is nothing new. In Islam, this concept is fundamentally key. Seeing Joe endorsing these concepts, has made my roots even stronger.

In every circumstance, Islam urges people to praise and thank God. When one says, “How are you” then the reply would be “Praise and Thanks to God (Alhamdulillah)”. When observed closely the cultures of Islam are in fact making Muslims perform the cleansing cycle throughout the entire day.

Great post and thank you for the reminder that we all should go back to square-one: the love of God.

Yes! That was exactly what I thought when I first heard about it.. When we’re doing our Zik’r, we repeat this over and over again.. so yes, you’re right!

We are cleansing as we pray to God =)

Thank you for the reminder Jenz!

  9. Hi Saif,

I have been reading your site with great interest today, and I must tell you I find it very inspirational. Though the stuff you talk about is not new to me, I believe very strongly that constantly intaking positive information is invaluable in ensuring continued belief and positivity.

This article inspired me to write one of my own, on the subject of dreams and intentions and would be really pleased if you stopped by and gave me your thoughts.
